An integral water system suppresses the generation of any open flame. Unlike bake-off ovens-which typically operate at 250-500☏-burn-off ovens usually run at 700-900☏ or greater, causing the coating to burn without flame, which is called pyrolysis. Burn-off ovens-also called heat cleaning ovens-are a popular tool for stripping powder coated racks and parts. The latter may include the use of heat-cleaning ovens, open flames, hot fluidized beds, molten salt baths and lasers. Among them, chemical stripping, mechanical stripping and pyrolytic stripping. It'll last a lot longer and will be easier to re-open the can. Put a layer of cellophane (saran wrap) over the top, then reinstall the lid (cellophane between lid and can).

  • Seriously I have stuff that has held up for years in the sun with no problems if you do it right. If you patiently take your time with it the paint job will serve you well. Let your painted piece sit in the sun for a week or more before you man-handle it or you will ding up your sweet paint job. Wear a respirator or dust mask so you don't cough up black gunk two days later. Paint it in the shade on a warm (but not hot) non-windy day. They matter with this stuff! I think you can immediately top coat your primer. Use primer that matches the brand of the paint. Yeah you will spend some $ but it's worth it. I would grab 2 or 3 cans of primer and maybe 5 or 6 cans of paint. By the time you finish a coat you can start over with the next. For ATVs, people frequently have the frame and other custom parts powder coated, while for boats we can powder coat a boats metal parts to help them resist. Get more cans than you think you need and return what you don't use so you don't have to stop. A light first coat followed by two heavier wet coats is good. It will hold up to the elements much better over time. Be ready to spend some serious time wiping and rubbing down every inch of your nice rack (sorry had to say it) with acetone or something to take the oils off.
